The hardest part about writing an erotic series is keeping the balance between plot and sex. Erotica has to be about sex or it’s not erotica. It’s just as easy as writing in any genre with the first installment, but it gets a little harder once you move onto book #2. Each individual story must have its own plot while contributing to the entire arc of the series and be sufficiently smutty.
I like think that there’s more to erotica than just throwing two people at each other. Writing a series is challenging, but it’s a challenge I definitely enjoy! Of course, I want Marina and Henry Meyers to end up together and live happily ever after, but what’s the point of even writing their story, then?
So, Marina’s cushy internship doesn’t turn out to be so cushy after all in Billionaire Break Up. But like me, Marina also likes a challenge.
Marina’s finally getting the hang of her internship, most of which she spends in private “brainstorming sessions” with CEO Henry Meyers, until a familiar face from her past re-enters the picture. With her sex life hanging by a thread, she questions whether Henry sees her as more than just an office fling and how far she’s willing to go to find out.
I thought after the holidays, I would have a pretty low-key, downhill-from-here kind of year. NOPE. February has been crazier than I anticipated, which is part of the reason why I haven’t updated my blog/published very many titles this month. My fitness and diet goals were conveniently forgotten, along with my mom’s birthday. Various expenses piled up. My sex life…has seen better days. I’ve been sick. My dog also got sick. Fortunately, I’m all better and I have a ginormous box of chocolates to keep me company!
Like I said, I haven’t been keeping up with my usual writing pace. I’m currently working on the third story in my Billionaire Boss Series (still trying to come up with a good title). The first one, My Boss’s Billionaire Boyfriend, is free, and you can find the second one, The Indecent Internship, here.
I’ve gotten some great feedback for this series, so far. Maybe it’s the idea of a rich, powerful, older man taking what he wants (or maybe it’s just me), but there’s something about the characters and situation that resonates with readers. I’ve mentioned before that my best-selling stories are the ones that I enjoyed writing the most, and I’ll say it again now. I love the idea of a man in business attire navigating a busy schedule of board meetings and phone calls to fit in a little office sex. I love imagining him taking off his cuff-links, rolling up his sleeves, pushing me up against a wall, and not taking no for an answer. I love all of that so much that I made a character (Marina Ramsey) whose only job is to experience everything that a billionaire boss has to offer!
Obviously, there is more than just office sex in my stories. Things get in Marina’s way, and there is a huge obstacle keeping her from sexytimes in #3. So while we wait for its completion, you can read a bit of what I have so far after the cut.
What’s life like as a writer of erotica? It’s not much different than any other writing job, except that the “research” we do tends to be more fun!
My typical day begins around 11 a.m. After having some breakfast and coffee, I’ll sit at the computer and check the previous evening’s sales, read the news, and catch up on emails. After that, I disconnect the wi-fi and write. Depending on the story, I’ll spend anywhere from 3 hours to the entire day just typing. I’ll often take a break to jog around the block or make a cover to give my mind a little rest.
Sometimes the well runs dry, so that’s when I do some research! Okay, fine, I watch porn (for science). I also read erotica from other talented authors, brows erotic photographs, internet-stalk my celebrity crush, basically anything to get my erotic gears turning. Last night, I came across the new Youtube craze (look up “Grind on Me Vines” for some confused ladyboner action).
If I have a story to publish at the end of the day, I upload to all the various sales channels. This part takes about an hour. After that, I congratulate myself with a glass of wine. Or 2. Or even if I don’t need congratulating.
My “Nephews in Law” series is about Valentina, a girl who never knew she had a twin fetish until she met her boyfriend’s nephews, who are twins. Do I know how she feels? Hells yes I do. I’ve dated a twin before. He was one of the most beautiful men I’ve ever had, and there were two of him. Although my relationship was with one twin, I wasn’t shy about letting my mind wander to his brother every once in a while. Writing “Nephews in Law” had me feeling like I was Valentina, at times. Wanting what you can’t have. Undeniable attraction. That’s what twin fantasies and pseudo-incest erotica is made of.

What’s on deck…a story about a nice Midwestern girl thrown into a personal assistant position for a Hollywood heartthrob, and she ends up assisting him in more ways than one!
